2016 Ford Explorer is the upcoming refreshed version of the current model that made its debut back in 2011. This family friendly sports utility vehicle became a rage among buyers and sold over 7 million units in the United States. So, Ford is looking forward to keeping the popularity quotient going and introduces a variety of tweaks and improvements that will make 2016 Ford Explorer excel in both style and performance. With modified exterior design and a new engine, this car will make waves in the automobile industry.
2016 Ford Explorer: Redesign Exterior and Interior
Since this release in being termed as a ‘refresh’ rather than a redesign, we would recommend you to keep your expectations in check. Like almost all other current releases, the Explorer too gets a tougher appearance, which has been achieved by redesigning the front. Both head and taillights have LED that makes this car look superb when compared to the current model. Design in grille varies according to trim models and the hood sports a rather new look. The car has also become more aerodynamic thanks to grille shutters and Air Curtain System. There are also rumours that this new car has also shed some weight due to lighter weight materials, but we’ll need more information to confirm such report.
The interior, however, has received a significant upgrade and has better quality seats, more cabin space and better technology. Ford finally listened to their fans and has now introduced knobs and buttons in MyFordTouch system. Ford has redesigned the seats so as to allow better legroom for both passengers and the driver. In addition, there is also an option of controlling temperature of the front seat.
Technology features are even more appealing as the 2016 Ford Explorer comes equipped with a variety of modern entertainment and safety gadgets. There is 180-degree rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, blindspot monitoring, and the ever popular hands-free power liftgate that made its first appearance on Ford Escape.
2016 Ford Explorer: Engine and Fuel Economy
The biggest change takes place under the hood of 2016 Ford Explorer as it now boasts a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that made its debut in Ford Mustang 2015. According to official reports, this engine delivers at least of 270 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The base offering is a 3.5 litre unit while its high-trim models such as Sport or Platinum come fitted with a turbocharged EcoBoost engine, delivering horsepower of 365 and 350 lb-ft of torque. The main reason behind the change in engine is increased fuel economy. While Ford has not provided us with any specific details, but they say the new EcoBoost engine should have a mileage of 20 mpg on city dive and 28 mpg on the highway.
2016 Ford Explorer: Release Date and Price
Despite of all the improvements, the base model of 2016 Ford Explorer will remain the same and will cost around $ 30 000, plus a destination charge of $ 895. The car is expected to go on sale in summer of 2016. We would reveal more details on pricing of the higher trims as we get closer to its release date.
