The 2016 Kia Optima was spotted being tested in the desert and from how it appeared; we can expect a mild facelift of this very popular model. Kia has constantly upgraded the features of its most popular model and for the 2016 model year, we expect the changes to be more significant than its previous version. Even though it was camouflaged, there were few noticeable structural changes in its exterior design. As far as mechanical changes go, we can only offer speculative information at this point. 2016 Kia Optima is expected to debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
2016 Kia Optima: Redesign Exterior and Interior
In trend with other mid-size sedans, the Optima retains its roots in terms of looks and improves upon it by making few minor tweaks with the design layout. Overall the car has got more aggressive with its redesigned new headlights, sharp air intakes and more chiselled features of the grille. LED lights will remain in both the front and rear parts and will serve as the USP of this model. According to the recent auto making trends, the Optima will also most likely lose weight due to use of high-strength and lighter quality materials, thus leading to increased performance and fuel efficiency.
While we wait for the Geneva Motor Show 2015, we can speculate about the interiors of 2016 Kia Optima. Like its previous generation, this too will have best in class interior design and technology features of its time. The fourth generation Optima will offer better comfort and luxury as it is likely to come with leather upholstered seats, more cabin space and improvement in tools that comprise the interior of this vehicle.
There is a chance of heated rear seats to make a comeback along with panoramic glass roofs. The steering wheel would look better and provide a stronger grip. A touch screen is likely to be fitted on its dashboard through which the user can control a multitude of navigation and audio features. As Kia’s reputation persists, the interiors will get bigger and better in all aspects.
2016 Kia Optima: Engine and Fuel Economy
Much like the Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in models, the 2016 Kia Optima will be fitted with a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine with direct injection. It will be combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission with the assist of an electric motor. Another variant might be offered in the future according to recent reports, but we have to wait for confirmation from the officials at Kia.
The engine will be able to produce horsepower up to a maximum of 195 and like Sonata Hybrid; it has fuel efficiency rate of about 40 mpg on combined and 38 mpg on city drives. We will get more information as we get closer to its debut.
