2016 Toyota Hilux is one of the most popular pick-up truck models offered by leading Japanese automotive giant – Toyota Motor Corporation. It was originally introduced in 1968 and was based on “Toyota’s N design platform”. The model is also marketed as Toyota Pickup in the United States; its current generation model was recently unveiled at the 2015 Auto Show held in Bangkok. 2016 Toyota Hilux is slated for a global release in 2016, but the statement is yet to be made official.
2016 Toyota Hilux: Engine Features
2016 Toyota Hilux features certain major engine modifications but is most likely to retain its original inline four cylinder 2.7 L engine that is capable of producing a maximum torque & power output of 188 lb-ft torque respectively. One should also take note of its alternate power train which is composed of a 2.8 L diesel based unit that is often compared to the classic Cummins 5.0 liter V8. This engine configuration is speculated to generate about 160HP & 300lbft torque that is a great improvement from its previous 3.0 L turbo diesel engine. However, one should note that what the 2.8 L loses in power, it makes in up in torque & overall fuel consumption (it is noted to have a reduced fuel consumption by about 10%).
2016 Toyota Hilux will have its old 5 & 4 speed automatic gear boxes replaced with a new set of a six speed manual or automatic power transmission system. Another added advantage offered by next Toyota Hilux is that the transmission is available in both drive modes including – the primary rear wheel drive & an optional all wheel driving platform. One should also take note of its newly installed electronic slip differentials that provide a highly improved & smooth torque vectoring. As a result, the model has also established itself as a reliable off road truck like its predecessors.
2016 Toyota Hilux: Redesign Exterior and Interior
2016 Toyota Hilux is speculated to have its dimensions altered following a major facelift. It is further expected to be relatively wider, taller & longer compared to the standard Amarok model that serves as the model’s arch rival. It should be noted that next generation Toyota Hilux offers a redesigned bumper and has a comparatively longer wheel base. (Current generation, Toyota Hilux is noted to be about 5135 mm in length, 1760 mm in width in addition to a 3085mm long wheel base.) The model approximately weighs around 2500kg, which is about 500 kgs less than that of Navara & Amarok models and about 1000kgs lighter compared to Mazda BT-50 & Ford Ranger.
Major interior upgrades inside 2016 Toyota Hilux include addition of modern day technologies & instrumentation to the already existing sophisticated dash board. However, it should be noted that the layout of center console & dashboard has been changes significantly. Other interior accessories include an upgraded audio system, advanced trip computer, etc. in addition to major drive assist programs & automated climate control systems. It should also be noted that following a major model update in 2013, next generation 2016 Toyota Hilux features a rear end double cab seat along with an additional central head rest and an improved fuel injection system.
