Finally, Thai-market Isuzu D-Max’s updates have been disclosed online. A new pickup will be launched in the next two years, announced Isuzu a while ago. The 2017 Isuzu D-Max comes with many awesome features, like new transmission, restyling of the interior and the front end. The best being its Euro-6 compliant 1.9 L diesel engine which will replace the not so famous and noisy 2.5 L engine.
It seems that the new transmission will be available on the D-Max range, in Thailand at least. Nothing can be said (yet) about “how much of these changes will concurrently apply to other countries”, for instance, for Australia. It is the second largest market for Isuzu Ute globally.
Let’s know the changes before going into detail:
Minor facelift, 1.9 L DDi engine , and six-speed gearboxes in both auto and manual form.
For the top-spec variant, there are new 18-inch sleek wheels and new, integrated LED daytime running lights. More aggressive amendments have been made to the grille, front bumper and headlights, says the Thailand based automaker.
2017 Isuzu D-Max with New Engine
The near 3.0 L units which initially dominated the market once are being replaced quickly and vastly by the smaller engines. For example, the next generation Ford Ranger is rumored to have replaced the engine with a 2.0 L diesel engine and the Volkswagen Amarok already has a 2.0 L engine. The automaker, Isuzu has reportedly replaced its 2.5 L engine with a 1.9 L as well.
It’s new, lighter engine, dubbed RZ4E-TC, is more fuel efficient and cleaner than the other two (Amarok’s and Ford Ranger’s engine). The 2017 Isuzu D-Max have emission outputs of 161 g/km. 2016 Nissan NP300 Navara and the 2015 Mitsubishi L200 emit around 167 g/km and 169 g/km respectively.
The best among the updates are the front bumper, headlights, new bonnet, revised grille and revised rear lights, according to the brochure information found on one Thai site.
On fuel consumption, there will be a significant 19% reduction which brings the figure to 43 mpg. Well, a 147 bhp has been declared so far but given the output of 163 bhp /420 Nm, more outputs are likely to be announced.
New manual and auto transmission
The current five-speed automatic and current six-speed manual is functional and not just for show. Also, it is anticipated that the new transmissions will be simpler to use and refined. The current five-speed automatic is, however, hesitant and slow and could be a hindrance for the Thai-manufacturer to get into the big market.
A few interesting gadgets have been added to the vehicle but the overall layout of the interior is still the same and has not changed much. The current system has been replaced by the new “Isuzu Connect World” entertainment and connectivity system.
Features and Price of new D-Max
Larger and more informative windows are provided by the new, 8-inch TFT display whereas the pickup will have roof-mounted loudspeakers. You can comfortably download an Isuzu Insight economy driving app into your smartphone as well and give your driver feedback.
The new D-Max is very commercial but with its new changes, it will appeal to all kinds of consumers. As for the price, it might vary from $35,000 to $45,000 but nothing much has been announced yet.
