Evolved from Acura SLX, this 3-row luxury SUV is Honda’s one of the top selling models. After its inception in 2000, the automaker has already sold nearly 700,000 units of MDX by the end of 2014 in the US only. To continue this successful run, Honda is all set to roll out its new 2018 Acura MDX.
2018 Acura MDX Redesign
Honda may borrow MDX’s looks from its new Acura Precision concept. If this is the case, the SUV may see a completely redesigned front grille combined with larger air-intakes. It will be a diverging mesh structure along with a diamond pentagon shape. However, MDX may also retain its previous single bar design with slight modifications.
- Precision concept design may lift MDX’s nose a bit. This will impart an aggressive look to Honda’s new 7-seater SUV.
- Front bumper along with its wheel arches may also gain some muscle. Expect options for thicker wheels this time from Honda.
- Honda may also install 3-eye LED fog lights. Expect sharper taillights along with a redesigned hatch-door.
Extra lines may be added on its bonnet along with few on its sides. The 2018 Acura MDX may retain its slanting C-pillar structure.
No official word on its interior design is yet available. Rumours suggest that its wheelbase is likely to be increased to 111 inches while its overall length will be maintained at 196.2 inches. This will not only increase the SUV’s legroom but will enhance the comfort level. Also, expect bucket shaped front seats with 10-way power adjustable along with both heating and ventilation features.
Infotainment of 2018 Acura MDX will consist of an 8-inch LCD along with Speed-Sensitive Volume Compensation (SVC). The audio system will be composed of 8 speakers combined with Acura Premium Sound System. Honda should also include Siri eyes and AHA compatibility.
2018 Acura MDX Powertrain
The 2018 Acura MDX will continue to house the 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 engine under its hood. A direct fuel injection technique will be in place. Expect a power capacity of 290 hp and a torque capacity of nearly 267 lb-ft of this SUV. A 9-speed automatic transmission along with manual shifting mode will be mated with the powertrain.
With this, MDX 2018 will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5.9 seconds while it will reach 0 to 100 mph in 16.4 seconds flat. Top speed will be around 113 mph. A new chassis will likely improve EPA ratings from its previous figures of 19 mpg in city and 26 mpg on the highway. Expect a combined rating of 21 mpg.
This full-sized SUV is likely to house all the standard safety features from Honda. This will include:
- Adaptive Cruise Control.
- Forward Collision detection and warning system.
- Electronic braking system along with automatic brake assist.
- Tire pressure monitoring system.
- Side beam impacts along with pedestrian detection.
- Rear view cameras along with park assist.
The 2018 Acura MDX will also include blind spot monitoring system and a lane-keep assist as standard. Also expect an advanced traction control in this SUV.
2018 Acura MDX Price and Expected Release Date
Expect it to hit the showrooms around late 2017 with a price tag of nearly $45,000. At this range, the SUV is likely to face competition from the likes of Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, and Infiniti QX60.
