The German manufacturers are getting serious with this 2018 Audi Q5. Facing stiff competition from BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche, this new model will be a substantial remodel and redesign over its previous generations.
2018 Audi Q5 Exterior Modifications
The first look at this 2018 Audi Q5 gives an immediate positive response. Audi has stuck to its design language, but there are a few added touches which make it look fresher and sharper than before. This upcoming model is larger than previous generations and thus will automatically increase in-cabin comfort and luxury, especially rear seat legroom.
This upcoming model will be built on the new MLBevo platform. And it is due to this platform that this new generation of Q5s will lose nearly 200 pounds at least. Overall, the shape and stance are sportier than before mostly because of some new body lines on either side.
Exterior design changes include a new LED cluster for headlamps which are pushed just that bit further back with a larger Q7-like chrome grille up front. The rear end will sport new dynamic LED turn signals and a wrap-around power tailgate.
2018 Audi Q5 Interior Changes
There’s leather everywhere now and even in the base trims. Audi has made sure that the 2018 Audi Q5’s base interior specs become a benchmark for the compact SUV or crossover segment. This will be the first Audi to be produced exclusively out of the brand-new San Jose Chiapa Audi production facility in Mexico.
Increased dimensions will add to more rear space as mentioned before. This new generation has newly designed leatherette added dashboard and other controls. There’s leather on the new chunky gear lever as well.
Luxury specs will include among others:
- 3 Zone Auto Climate Control.
- Brushed Aluminum Accents and Inlays.
- Panoramic Sunroof.
- Auto-dimming rear view mirror.
- Alcantara-leather upholstery.
- Heated Front Seats.
Infotainment specs and features in the upcoming base models will be: –
- SiriusXM Sat-Radio.
- Keyless Entry.
- MMI Navigation Plus.
- iPod Integration.
2018 Audi Q5 Performance
Initially, a new 2.0-liter twin turbo inline 4 will power this upcoming Q5. With power specs coming in at 252 hp and 272 lb-ft, this engine will be introduced into the American lineup as a base engine. One of the reasons for downsizing the engine is stricter regulations and Audi’s emphasis on mileage. EPA ratings have not been confirmed by the manufacturers, but they will be better than the previous figures.
Speaking of this engine which powered the previous generation, it might be introduced into this 2018 Audi SQ5 lineup to add that a performance factor on the whole. Output for this upcoming model will come with 3.0-liter at 354 hp and 346 lb-ft. With a top speed of 155 mph and 0 to 60 sprint timing comes in at 5.1 seconds, this is already known as a powerful engine.
2018 Audi Q5 Price and Review
So far, this car looks much better on paper and first sight. Added interior features in the base model may increase entry pricing. Expected pricing may be around $43,000. Whether this new 2018 Audi Q5 will exceed expectations and keep up with the sales is worth a wait and watch. Stay tuned for first-drive reviews.
