Pickups are among one of the hottest segments in the automobile market segments. And this 2018 Nissan Frontier is already well overdue. The Japanese manufacturers are having a tough time in this market segment thanks to competition from the likes of Toyota and other American manufacturers. And this North American market is the largest one for pickups. So, Nissan needs to make this work.
2018 Nissan Frontier Performance with a new Engine Lineup
Latest news suggests that this new model will hit the roads with 2 new engines. Although there is no official release to this info, the manufacturers will look to incorporate its Titan standard-duty pickups success DNA into this upcoming Frontier.
The base engine for this 2018 Nissan Frontier will be a tweaked 2.5-liter Inline 4 engine from a Navara. Expected specs of this new engine are around 200 hp and 185 lb-ft.
The other new engine in this lineup will be a 3.5-liter V6. This engine will come straight from Nissan Titan production line and a much-needed healthy addition to this upcoming model. Power outputs may come in at nearly 300 hp and 280 lb-ft.
A Diesel Engine:
Nissan has had talks with Cummins for collaboration to add a diesel engine for this upcoming 2018 Nissan Frontier. A 2.8-liter Inline 4 is an obvious choice with expected power outputs around 250 hp and 300 lb-ft.
2018 Nissan Frontier Exterior Modifications
This model is not rugged and Nissan will keep it that way. This new vehicle will take a few design cues with a recently upgraded Navara. Other than a redesigned V-shaped new grille, new headlamp clusters and air intakes will also be included in this model.
All-in-all, this pickup will have a new front fascia in tune with Nissan’s design dynamics. Muscular and large fender flairs will echo big wheel arches. But a common aspect will be the smooth lines and contours to them.
As far as cab configurations are concerned, the previous generation had two – a King Cab and a Dual Cab. This model is a light-duty pickup truck and Nissan will keep it that way so that it does not move into Nissan Titan territory.
Both these cabs will accommodate 2 rows for its seating configurations. The King Cab will characteristically have the rear doors which open backward with normal front doors. The Dual Cab is larger with normal doors – it is a larger cab configuration with more 2nd-row passenger space and comfort.
Whether Nissan will come up with single cab configurations for this upcoming 2018 Nissan Frontier is a question. The manufacturers will do well if they add this cab configuration to increase their customer base and footprint.
Interior specs and overall design elements are rumored to echo that of a Nissan Titan XD. This new pickup will come with larger knobs and a re-designed central console. Info is itchy as there are only a few in-cabin details which have come to light.
However, there are a few original features which will continue from the previous generation. Rear bucket seats will continue in the Dual Cab while the King Cab will have foldable rear jump seats.
